Penguin Live Online Lecture - Oz Pearlman
Jerrod Warr from Lakewood on March 20th, 2012
I'm a big fan of this recent wave of online lectures, having seen nearly every one of them. This, in my humble opinion, has been the best of them.
There are a few reasons for this. First, one of my biggest disappointments/critiques with the other lectures has been that it seems like there are times during the lecture where they are free-styling it, a.k.a. using everyone's time inefficiently. This wasn't so with Oz Pearlman; he's a guy who thoroughly understands teaching and pacing, given the number of videos he's done. He was very well prepared and it showed. He also gave us some great material, instead of filler.
Next, there were excellent insights on performance, theory, and magic management. This is the main reason why I watch the lectures; for me personally, showing how a trick is done is nice, but I already have so many products I don't really need more. It's the stories and practical advice that highlight my experience.
Finally, Oz did an extra HOUR of lecture! It was a nice nod to the people who paid to see him and it showed how much he loves doing what he does. His attitude towards the craft is contagious and really motivating. It was an encore performance that I greatly appreciated.
One final thanks to Acar for fielding a large number of questions from the Twitter feed. Feeling like the internet audience could actually ask questions and have them answered makes a big difference in making me want to come back for more lectures.
Overall, definitely worth the price. If you're looking to test one of these lectures out, my advice is to start with this one.
