Brutishly Starlit by Iain Dunford
"Thank you Iain, for dragging readings into the 21st century." - Richard Webster
Brutishly Starlit is a compendium of my reading systems.
Tessarula - using old school ADMIT ONE style tickets that are very cheap. Or if that's not your thing, just scraps of paper or blank cards. Tessarula can also replace the tarot.
palm/tree readings - an unique take on palm reading that isn't based on palm reading whatsoever, with thoughts from Dr. Bill Cushman.
AEIOU - tell people about themselves using their names. Or use it to add depth and structure to drawings people make and far more.
thought-paths - similar to AEIOU but numbers based. Everything from their PIN to their date of birth. Both AEIOU and thought-paths are on Doug Dyment's recommended cold reading resource list.
meta-ph-oracle - a thoroughly unique and somewhat poetic approach to cartomancy. Using none of the standard techniques.
Familiars - little add ons and tips and subtleties to all of the above.
Horosculptures - my take on using people's star signs and describing their personality.
Tarography - a mix of social media, advertising and photos we now all have on our phones, we use them digitally and physically. We learn how to create our own personal tarot cards and how to endless generate new ones. Tactile, unique, and eye catching.
Tornamancy - how to create unique keepsakes, and read all night at an event using nothing but a single deck of cards, an envelope and a couple of low key items. Make things for your clients that they will keep forever and share with everyone.
Previously published as stand-alone items or in books. Now they are compiled together in one tome. They are all plug-n-play, by that I mean they can be combined together once you're comfortable with the rules of each. AEIOU, thought-paths and meta-ph-oracle can be combined beautifully to give as much insight from as little as possible. From a playing card, to a name, to a PIN. Even to film titles, nicknames, the description of a drawing and more besides. Most need nothing whatsoever to be used. Tessarule uses small tickets, easily available from ebay or made yourself. Meta-ph-oracle is for playing cards. Tarography uses real photos you can generate yourself very easily. And tornamancy requires the sacrifice of a single deck of major arcana or playing cards. Photocopies are acceptable too.
All of these systems are easy to learn. Are not rehashes of older systems and are capable of quick entertainment readings to more in-depth and personal. Many ideas are included and you'll soon be able to tell people about their name, their age, and more besides - in interesting, realistic and unique ways.
1st edition 2018, 142 pages.
